Nate Topo has established himself as a well-known artist in the Detroit music scene. He just recorded his debut album, featuring artists Scott Gwinnell, Gayelynn McKinney, Vincent Chandler, and Ralphe Armstrong, among others. Ralphe once said of Nate, “He sounds like Joe Henderson on the doggone tenor saxophone.” Nate has spent the past few years organizing jam sessions in Detroit’s Eastern Market and Cass Corridor, and has welcomed special guests like Martha Reeves and James Carter. James even gave Nate the nickname, “Mr. True-Tone.” Whether He’s singing or playing his 105-year-old saxophone, Nate strives to honor the history of his art form and the city of Detroit in his performances.
